Preschool & Kindergarten Curriculum Ages 3 - 6
|

Welcome to the "Children's House". Our
classroom is design to allow children the
freedom to explore, create, and learn at their
own pace. Children will participate in small
group lessons and work independently with
Montessori materials. Children work along with
a fully certified Montessori teacher. The four
core areas of study are: practical life,
sensorial, mathematics, and language.
Practical Life skills assist children in developing
a sense of order, concentration, confidence,
fine motor skills, grace, and courtesy. These
exercises move from care of self to care of
others, and care of the environment. Practical
life lessons encourage independence.
The Sensorial lessons are designed to develop
the use of all five senses. Each lesson teaches
one quality such as volume, size, width,
length, touch, temperature, weight, color,
shape, or sound. Students learn how to order
and classify objects creating the foundation for
future studies in science, math, and geography.
The Mathematics program uses hands-on
materials to teach linear counting and place
value through the manipulation of objects.
Six year olds will generally know the math
operations of addition, subtraction
multiplication, and division upon exiting the
program.
The Language Arts program is designed to
enhance the students skills in reading, writing,
listening, and speaking. It begins with
readiness activities such songs, poems,
stories, and listening games. When a child
shows he/she is ready for more formal
instruction, a phonetic approach to reading is
introduced. Students will use Montessori
materials as well as simple phonics workbooks
and stories.
Enrichment Activities can include studies in
Botany, Zoology, Cultures of the World,
Geography puzzles, Music and Movement,
Drama, and Art, and Physical Education.
Summer Program - (ages 3-12)
The summer program offers students more
enrichment activities in all subjects and
another chance to further explore areas of
interest. The summer program is a great time
for parents to share their talents with the
students and to help supervise trips, or just
share a day with their child. We welcome
visitors and appreciate your help to make
summer program a special experience for
everyone.
