Lower Elementary Curriculum (Ages 6-9)
The Great Lessons originally designed
by Maria Montessori to give children an
understanding of their world, and to
initiate interest in areas such as
science, math,  history, and language
arts. The Five Great Lessons
encompass the history of the Earth’s
past as we know it. The lessons are
titled :

The Story of the Universe
Life Comes to Earth
Human Life Comes to Earth
The Story of Language
The Story of Numbers.

The Lessons give a brief introduction
to each subject area and are
accompanied by simple science
experiments. These lessons are
simply introductory, and are appropriate
for children of all cultures, and religious
backgrounds.

Students receive individual and small group
instruction, which allows each child to progress
at their own pace.  After a presentation by the
teacher, students complete the follow-up work
using the Montessori materials. Elementary
students use a weekly planner to balance their
work load in each subject, and to assist them
with time management. A Friday meeting is
scheduled for each student in which the teacher
discusses weekly accomplishments.
